Example of a 9/9 Custom Hammered Dulcimer
The instrument below is meant to give you an idea of some of the possible combinations of woods. The selected woods could be used on any of my hammered dulcimer models, Linear Chromatics or Tsimbls.
This 9/9 Custom is the smallest and lightest instrument I make. The range is approximately the lower two thirds of the common 12/11 suitable for playing Medieval or Renaissance music. The dulcimer weighs 10 lbs and is 38" X 11 1/2" with a 24 1/2" top rail. Despite its size the instrument still has nice tone.
This instrument has a Cherry frame with matching bridges, a natural Spruce soundboard, Birdseye Maple pin panels and Ebony trim.
