| Welcome to my web page. I hope you find information that is helpful. Please contact me if you have any questions. With the help of computers and the Web, information is now easy to obtain but choices still have to be made and sometimes it's nice to be able to get personal help. Please feel free to give me a telephone call (540 586-6319) if you'd like to talk; old fashioned but effective. The line goes to my home and shop so don't be surprised if my wife Karen answers the phone. |

| Video I now have three videos available through my site. The first is my video profile done by a my local public television station. I also have a clip An Introduction to the Bowed Psaltery located on my bowed psaltery page. My most recent clip is a sampling of some of the many soundhole designs I've done over the years set to a Scott Joplin Rag played by Steve Schneider and Paul Oorts. It is located on my soundhole design page. You'll need broadband to watch any of them. |

The Linear Chromatic tm- Over the last few years lf I"ve worked closely with Steve Shmania of Chapel Hill, NC and lately with Dan Landrum of Chattanoga, TN to develop what is called a Linear Chromatic hammered dulcimer. This four and a half octave 10/19/18/8 is a somewhat radical departure in layout providing full chromaticism in a user friendly format. I also now offer the 10/19/18/8 with 1" string spacing (normally it is 7/8" string spacing). This instrument will hopefully make playing classical, jazz and more highly chromatic material an easier proposition. Steve Shmania has completed a book; an Introduction to the Linear Chromatic. which is available through my shop. You may want to purchase the book just to familarize yourself with this instrument. Both the 10/19/18/8 and a smaller 10/14/13 which has the same range as a violin are now available. For more information including photos and tuning schemes check out my web pages devoted to the Linear Chromatic and my main hammered dulcimer page. I now have a soundsamples of two of the four cuts Dan has created for the new CD Hammer On!. Go to the Linear Chromatic page and follow the links to get an idea of what the instrument can sound like.
3/16/18/9 and the LC are now also available in 1" string spacing (still also available in the 7/8"). My ever popular 3/16/18/9 and Linear Chromatic has just become more user friendly for those of you who want a little bigger tone and need more real estate when hammering away. If you are an agressive player, you'll appreciate the wider string spacing. Unfortunately the instrument is larger and so you'll have a bit more to tote around. I'm please with the tone of these instruments though. The weight of the 3/16/18/9 is 19 lbs and size is 18"X49 1/2"X21 3/4". The LC is 21 1/2" X 23 1/2" by 47 1/2" and also weighs about 19 lbs. New EXPO Flight Cases now available |

Please be aware that I am a one man operation with all the limitiations and advantages that entails. Many of you have requested names of people playing my instruments. I will be glad to put you in touch with other players in your area who are currently using my instruments. Just e-mail me. Most people are more than willing to share their thoughts and experience. I do hope you all are enjoying the instruments I made this last year and are filling the air with beautiful sound. In our increasingly materialistic world it is nice to know that music remains one of the few mediums that only exists if you decide to play. Its effect resides within both the player and the listener. I am grateful to be part of that process. I hope you all have a wonderful year full of music, learning and fun. Let me know if I can facilitate that in any way Help! I would appreciate your feedback on this site. I've tried to make it 'understandable' and informative but it is a work in process as I learn more about what works and what doesn't. Your comments are invaluable. Please contact me if you have some suggestions. Thanks. |
