Lacewood
(Panopsis rubellens)
The color of the heartwood is pink to reddish-orange-brown. The tree is typically tall and straight, up to 120 feet, and with diameters as large as 48". It grows in South America. The wood, also called Silky Oak, has a grain structure that is straight but the wood exhibits lace-like figure produced from medullary rays that bisect the rings of annual growth. Machining characteristics are fair since the wood is only moderately hard and the texture is coarse.
